Suspected Filipino drug peddler arrested in Karama raid

DUBAI – A 40-year-old Filipino man has been arrested for possessing and selling drugs after authorities raided his residence in Karama following a tip off.

Authorities acted on a tip from an informant who said that the Filipino possessed and consumed drugs in his residence.

After obtaining a search and arrest warrant from Dubai prosecutors, a police team raided the Filipino’s residence where they found a small packet of methamphetamine hidden in a suit tucked away in a cupboard kept in the balcony.

The Filipino told interrogators that a compatriot who is currently in jail for drug consumption provided him the drug.

An anti-narcotics police officer testified that the Filipino admitted working as a middleman for the Filipino convict at Dubai Central Jail.

“[He] alleged that the convict used to ask him to keep the drugs for some time until someone comes to purchase them. After selling the drugs [he said] he would transfer the proceeds to his countryman’s account,” the officer told prosecutors.

The Filipino allegedly said he received a commission for each sale and that he had sold drugs to two Filipinos in Sharjah and Al Ain.
