Student wins gold coin worth Dh37,500 during Dubai Shopping Festival
DUBAI – She had no clue that she had entered in a gold raffle draw, so imagine Hanna Hashim’s surprise when she was told that she won a gold coin worth Dh37,500 in the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF).
Hashim, a 13-year-old student of Sharjah Indian School, said it was her father who put her name in the raffle ticket for the draw by the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group.
Her ticket was picked from almost 60,000 entries. When the family received a call, they first thought it was a prank, Hashim said.
The teen said it is her first time to win a gold coin and that her parents have tried their luck in raffle draws over the years but never won anything.
This time, they got eight tickets from an uncle who gave Hashim a gold necklace bought during DSF where there is a daily draw for gold prizes on gold, diamond or watch purchases worth at least Dh500.
The teen said she is planning to use the gold coin to fund her college tuition. She wants to become and architect and study in India, she said.
